Almost 300 Golfers played
After three days of fantastic competition Cobh Golf Club’s Annual Fundraiser Event finished on Sunday 03 July in brilliant sunshine. Despite torrential wind and rain on Friday, almost 300 golfers turned up to support the Irish Heart Foundation and the Club.
Sponsors made it possible
Many sponsors had come forward to contribute to good causes, and special thanks go to Cobh Credit Union, Michael O’Connell, and Stephen McCormack, whose generosity enabled the Club to provide fantastic prizes and even offer a Toyota Aygo X for any lucky golfer who scored a ‘Hole-In-One’ on the 10th Island Green!
A car for a ‘Hole-In-One’
It was a pity that strong winds made this task almost impossible – the car was not won in this event but every golfer was given a great thrill before teeing off on the 10th. Many thanks go to Cogans Toyota Carrigaline who supplied the car, and especially to Cobh Credit Union, who were the main sponsor of the ‘Hole-In-One competition!
Prizes and winners
Fantastic prizes made sure that there was still plenty to compete for over the weekend. The main prize (a brandnew GolfCad electric lithium-battery trolley – courtesy of GolfCad, the newst electric golf trolley available in Ireland) went to Baden Maher, who brought his whole family to the prize-giving ceremony to collect it. 43 points with a 9 handicap proved just too good for everyone else. Trevor Dunlea (2nd – winning Green Fees for the Old Head) and Patrick Mullen (3rd place with Hotel voucher for €500) came in on 40 points, closely followed by Peter Crowley and Terry Shealy on 39 points.
Fotos below show Winners Baden Maher (1st), Patrick Donnachie (best gross), Patrick Mullen (3rd), Peter Crowley (4th), Stephen McCormack (7th), Frank Dunlea (1st in Seniors Section), Teresa Delius (1st Ladies Section) and Eileen van Leeuwen (2nd in Ladies Section). Congratulations to all!
A big cheque for the Irish Heart Foundation
A cheque over €1,650 was presented to the Irish Heart Foundation before the prize giving ceremony. The Irish Heart Foundation has made a huge difference to thousands of people in Ireland, and Cobh Golf Club is highly committed to keep supporting this fantastic charity in the future. The foto above shows Cobh Golf Club’s Captain Tony Reddin, Teresa Delius (Marketing Chair), Sponsor Michael O’Connell and Lady Captain Marion Britton presenting the cheque for the IHF.
Hamper Draw
The prize giving ceremony also included the draw for a fantastic golf-hamper that included Green Fees to the Old Head and attractive golf merchandise sponsored by David O’Sullivan, Cobh Golf Club’s PGA Professional. The lucky number 171 was drawn and the cheer in the room was great when the winner was announced: It was Captain Tony Reddin himself! (link to the video of the announcement).4 ball Green Fees for other clubs went to Johnny O’Connell and to Keron Corrane. Thanks to all members who supported!
